Greetings Council District 1, NPU V& W, APD Zone 3, Georgia State University, Summerhill & Grant Park Neighborhoods and Businesses,
Georgia State Stadium will be hosting the Girls on the Run 5K on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at 9am. Per the requirements of the City of Atlanta’s Outdoor Event Ordinance and Assembly Permit, we are contacting you to provide you with information. This has been an annual event to celebrate the completion of the Girls on the Run Fall training program. We anticipate a crowd of 3000+ participants.
The attached documents should provide you with an outline of the event and the run/walk route that has been requested. Ralph David Abernathy Road will be closed between Pollard & Hank Aaron Dr. from 7:00am-11am to through traffic. Detours will be monitored by the Atlanta Police Department off duty officers security team. Rolling closures will be in effect on Sydney & Ormond streets between 9:00am and 10:30am. Delays will be monitored by APD off duty officers and will be minor in nature.
We also ask that you assist us with making this information available to the neighborhoods surrounding Georgia State Stadium and Grant Park by posting this information to your websites and other outlets that may be available. Your contacts are importing to keeping the community informed and aware.
The pre and post event activities will take place in the formerly named “Monument Grove” area of the stadium with food and beverages for the participants, exhibitors, kids area, entertainment, DJ, and more. Parking for the participants will be in the Georgia State Blue & Green lots as well as the Carter Gold Lot. Participants are also being encouraged to use MARTA and ride share services. The race staff and volunteers will be responsible for clean up along the run/walk route and race site for the event.
