The Center for Civic Innovation (CCI) believes that people should be empowered as the fundamental voice in public decision-making. We want a more effective system of community engagement between people and public decision-makers, so that they hear from, listen to, and engage with one another. A strong system of engagement is built on understanding and trust.
While the City of Atlanta has seen a lot of change since Mayor Maynard Jackson took office in 1974, its formal community engagement system of Neighborhood Planning Units (NPU) has not. Atlanta’s 25 NPUs were designed as a vehicle for residents to be informed and empowered as decision-makers in their own city. The NPU system needs evaluation and modernization.
On March 14 at Atlanta City Hall, we are proud to announce that we will be launching our NPU Initiative, a multi-year evaluation and reimagining of community engagement of Atlanta.

Applications for students and interested startups are open now until March 15. For more information, visit investatlanta.com/students2startups.
Students must be City of Atlanta residents. Offers for the Students2Startups program are contingent on submitting the following documents to approve eligibility in a timely manner. Since we are working with Worksource Atlanta, all students participating in S2S must meet eligibility criteria. You only need one of each of the documents on the right to meet each requirement. For example, you could use a GA drivers license (from right column) to meet three of the requirements on the left. If you have questions on the requirements below, please contact Jacqueline Joyce at jjoyce@AtlantaGA.gov.

Join us for our monthly meeting for residents of Neighborhood Planning Unit V! The City of Atlanta is divided into 25 Neighborhood Planning Units or NPUs, which are citizen advisory councils that make recommendations to the Mayor and City Council on zoning, land use, and other planning issues. The NPU system was established in 1974 to provide an opportunity for citizens to participate actively in the Comprehensive Development Plan, which is the city’s long-term vision for the next five, ten, and fifteen years into the future. It is also used as a way for citizens to receive information concerning all functions of city government. NPU-V encompasses the communities of Mechanicsville, Summerhill, Peoplestown, Pittsburgh, Adair Park, and Capitol Gateway.
The host community is Capitol Gateway and the meeting will be held at Fulton Atlanta Community Action Authority Resource Center (341 Kelly Street SE Atlanta, GA 30312).
The meeting agenda will be added once it’s published.
See you there!
As a follow up to last month’s NPU-V Community Forum, please join us as we introduce a collective of organizations dedicated to the residents of NPU-V communities. Come share your needs, hopes, and dreams for your community as we pledge to work towards a collective vision!
