From Grady Health Foundation:
We wanted to inform you personally about an exciting new event we are holding on Saturday, May 5, 2018. Called “VeloCity”, the event is a new cycling-based fundraising and community ride supporting Grady Health System. Our vision for this event is that it grows not only into a significant fundraiser for the health system, but also into a new Atlanta area tradition enjoyed by cyclists and spectators alike every year. Given your role as chairperson of your local NPU, we wanted to make you personally aware of the event as part of the ride may involve portions of your NPU area.
The ride will offer four distances, as well as an indoor cycling component, all based from the Georgia International Plaza outside of Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Our shortest distance – 5 miles – will follow a closed course through downtown Atlanta. The others – 25, 50 and 100 miles – will head south and west from downtown.
Our goal is to attract at least 1,000 cyclists in this first year, who will be supported by hundreds of volunteers at rest stops, along the course, and at our start/finish venue. Similar events throughout the nation attract upwards of 2,000 cyclists and raise significant funding for the institutions they support.
Through our professional partner, Georgia-based Medalist Sports, we are working with the appropriate planning and law enforcement contacts on the necessary permitting and safety requirements. Medalist manages similar events throughout the nation and is adept at balancing the needs of participating cyclists with those of the communities the ride will touch.
As Grady continues to seek additional sources of financial support and community engagement, we very are excited about this new opportunity. We believe it provides an exciting, positive way to share the story of Grady’s critical role in the metro Atlanta region. We have been delighted with the support we have received from the corporate community as we have sought sponsorships for the ride and with the feedback we have received from cycling enthusiasts.
