We are working on the framework on a council of youth to inform our work here at the foundation. While we have not figured out all the details we do know one of the critical elements will be the selection of diverse group of youth. We are asking you to think about and share contact information with youth that you may know of through your work or community involvement. While there is no one type of youth we are looking for we do have the following things we want you to consider.
-Youth Council will be made up of youth aged 18-25
-We want to make sure we have gender balance
-We want to be inclusive of LGBTQ youth
-We also want to have representation of youth who are not in school and not working
Our goal of the council is to co-design economically equitable outcomes for NPU-V residents, paying special attention to the circumstances of youth and young adults. We imagine that there will be anywhere between 8-15 members of the council.
Can you assist us in identifying youth who are also NPU-V residents by sharing their name and contact information.
At this point all we want to know is if they a have an interest in having their voices heard and giving feedback on economic justice issues.

Spring Storm Safety Tips from Georgia Power
ATLANTA – March 30, 2018– Spring storm season is here and Georgia Power is encouraging customers to be prepared when severe weather strikes. According to the National Weather Service, an average of 30 tornadoes occur in Georgia every year, however in 2017, more than 100 tornadoes were confirmed across the state. While March, April and May are typically the most active months for severe thunderstorms and tornadic activity, they can strike at any time.
Georgia Power reminds customers to keep safety first during severe weather and offers the following storm tips:
- Before a Storm: Stay aware and check the weather forecast before heading outdoors. Check your emergency kit, unplug major appliances and charge cell phones in case you lose power.
- During a Storm: Take safe shelter inside a sturdy building away from windows and doors. Avoid contact with conductors of electricity – appliances, metal objects and water.
- After a Storm: Never touch any downed or low-hanging wire, including telephone or TV wires that touch a power line. Never pull tree limbs off of power lines yourself or enter areas with debris or downed trees as downed power lines may be buried in wreckage.

Thank you for your input during Phase I of the Zoning Ordinance Update project! We are all set to launch Phase II of the project. The Department of City Planning (Department) will launch two (2) Public Forums –April 9, 2018 (Atlanta Metropolitan State College) and April 11, 2018 (Trinity Presbyterian Church). In addition, the Department will hold eight (8) Open House Sessions throughout the City. It is our intent to provide citizens with an opportunity for input and education on the proposed zoning adjustments.
The City of Atlanta Zoning Ordinance Update Phase II is a direct result of the Zoning Ordinance Diagnostic conducted in 2016. The proposed amendments will seek to:
- Clarify and improve certain provisions of the Atlanta Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Ordinance for usability
- Provide consistency with the City’s Comprehensive Development Plan and other comprehensive planning processes
- Update consistency with state and federal law, and advance the public health, safety and welfare.
- Offer best practices in zoning
- Improve public perceptions of, and experiences with, the Zoning Ordinance

Morehouse School of Medicine is conducting a survey to gather information from NPU V and other NPUs to learn about the population in relation to Morehouse School of Medicine PRC: Community Health Connections Radio Broadcast. We are looking to learn about who listens to the show and what health topics the community think are most important to discuss on the show. Morehouse School of Medicine Prevention Research Center is requesting community residents of NPU V to become Members of the Community Safety Evaluation Resident Advisory Committee. We would like representation from each of the communities in NPU V. You’ll have an opportunity for: Co-design an evaluation to understand how community safety projects are influencing NPU V; training in evaluation, data collection and analysis that you can apply to other issues or initiatives you care about; participation in regular monthly meetings for 1 year on the 4th Wednesday evening of each month from 6-8 pm, and to receive compensation for your ongoing committee participation.
